The summer months are wonderful for a number of reasons. The glorious weather, the longer days and the endless barbecues and family time; it is clear why it is by far the most favourite season of the year. It doesn’t matter how old you are, summer can easily put any of us in the best mood possible and for me one of the best parts of summer is being able to give my home a refresh.
When the sun starts shining we start to change a lot of things; from our wardrobes to our daily habits so why not change our homes too? In the aftermath of a difficult and dreary winter it is all too easy to find that we have fallen into a very big slump and our homes can often reflect this. From thebesthousedecors additional clutter to a lack of lighting, we can find that although the summer might be here; our homes still reflect the misery of the winter months.
With that in mind I love nothing more than giving my home a massive refresh just in time for the perfect weather and it doesn’t require spending an endless amount of money either!
Below are my top summer makeover tips that work, whatever the budget…
· Windows- If your budget allows then replacing windows is always great however given them a good clean works just as well! Start from the outside and then come, ensuring everything is thoroughly sparkling clean, make sure the frame is just as sparkling and if possible a fresh coat of paint will greatly help on here too.
· Walls- Speaking of paint now would be a great time to give the walls of your house a fresh coating. I generally find that light colours and neutral shades work incredibly well as they not only look great but work in brightening up a room.
· De clutter- One of the best ways to refresh a room is to ensure that you get rid of anything that you do not need. From excess junk that you were too cold to put away in the winter to one too many plant pots and picture frames; minimalism is a great way to keep your home looking as bright as possible. Experiment with each room, move things around and take things out until you find a balance that works for you.
· Change- From cushion covers to throws; understandably in the winter months you will have opted for the thicker materials, darker colours and shaggier feels for added warmth but now that the summer is here small changes can make a great difference. Replace everything with more suitable and lighter materials, opt for lighter shades and even throw in some floral or stripe prints; you’ll be surprised as to how much of a difference this small change can make.
Is your home ready for the summer? After a particularly dismal winter why not give things a little refresh? You’d be surprised as to just how different your home can look!.
